EA's Medal of Honor Allied Assault to Debut with New Packaging for PC Games; Videogame Industry to Follow with Newly Adopted Standard for PC Games

Electronic Arts (Nasdaq:ERTS) will roll out its PC games in new standard-sized boxes next week with the debut of EA's highly anticipated Medal of Honor Allied Assault(TM). The new industry packaging requires less space on retail shelves which allows for more inventory. It's also environmentally friendly.
Recently the Interactive Developers Software Association (IDSA) recommended a smaller, standardized PC box for educational and entertainment computer software products. As the industry leader, EA is at the forefront of implementing the new packaging standards.
Following the lead of the Interactive Entertainment Merchant Association (IEMA), the IDSA recommends the standardized size of 5.25"W, 7.5"H, 1"D, a package design with an established history in electronic media, including console video game and DVD packaging.
"We're really looking forward to the uniform appearance that the new, standardized PC boxes will give our stores," said Jerry Madaio, vice president of PC merchandise for Electronics Boutique. "Having many more PC titles faced outward, showing more of the box art, is a real advantage for our shoppers."
"A standardized box size for all our products means enhanced continuity in designing packaging for console and PC games, yet does not diminish the communication of benefits and features that consumers seek when making purchasing decisions," said Tom Cipolla, EA's vice president of sales.
All EA PC titles will now ship in the new standardized PC boxes. Following the roll out of Medal of Honor Allied Assault, key upcoming PC titles from EA include, Black & White(TM): Creature Isle Expansion Pack, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR(R) Golf 2002, Sid Meier's SimGolf(TM), and The Sims(TM) Vacation.
