Danni Ashe, The World's Most
Downloaded Woman, Sets The Record Straight On
Latest Challenge; Asks The Public To Weigh In On
Whom They Would Rather Download
Danni Ashe,
the world's Most Downloaded Woman and the only
person in history to have been downloaded over a
billion times, today spoke out on the recently
announced Australian and British challenges to
her Guinness World Record.
Ms. Ashe is primarily
known for her immensely popular Web site
(danni.com) and has been officially recognized by
both Guinness World Records, and Alexa Research,
as the world's most popular online personality.
Ashe was in Sydney,
delivering the opening keynote address at
Internet World Australia, when she first heard
news of her new competitors.
"There's been a
great deal of misinformation and confusion I'd
like to clear up for everyone's benefit. Guinness
World Records is currently refusing to award new
`download' titles due to their self confessed
inability to measure Web site statistics. I've
put them in touch with three highly respected
independent third parties, but they don't seem
ready to move forward in this area," said
Ashe, responding to rumors that the Aug. 1
attempt on the title by Australian challenger
Sarah Jane (www.sarahjane.com.au) might result in a new world
record. Sarah Jane's target of 70,000 downloads
in a single day is still significantly less than
Ashe's 841 million downloads, officially
recognized by Guinness last August.
A BBC owned radio station
in the U.K. is also making a lighthearted attempt
to challenge Danni's record by promoting
72-year-old English actress Kathy Staff as their
contender (www.bbc.co.uk/fivelive).
Ashe has decided to let
the public decide who they'd most like to
download, and has built a Web site that allows
anyone to see all three women and cast a vote for
their favorite (http://www.billiondownloadwoman.com/vote/).
"Until Guinness
World Records decides to get involved again, I
will remain the official record holder. This vote
is a chance for Americans, Britons and
Australians to show Guinness that people care
about the title and want their voice to be
heard."
