PlayStation Version of Critically Acclaimed
Arcade Game Hits Retail Shelves
Konami of America, Inc. heats up living room
floors across the country with the highly
anticipated launch of Dance Dance Revolution
(DDR) for Sony PlayStation®. Following in the
footsteps of the hugely popular arcade game, the
home adaptation of the game combines fun,
excitement, competition, choreography, and a
high-energy workout. Dance Dance Revolution is
rated "E" for Everyone and is available
at an SRP of $29.99. In addition, the special
dancepad accessory and a bundle pack containing
the game and dancepad will be available in April
2001 and May 2001 respectively. Dance Dance
Revolution is available at select retailers and
through Konamis on-line store at www.konami.com
"Dance Dance
Revolution offers the ultimate interactive
entertainment experience combining
high-energy dance music, bright and colorful
graphics, dancing and fun with a whole new level
of innovative game play," said Jason Enos,
Product Manager for Konami of America, Inc.
"Players and spectators all over the country
have been captivated by its arcade counterpart
and now everyone can take part in the revolution
in the comfort of their own homes."
DDR showcases a wide variety of pulsating dance
music including pop, disco, techno, house, Latin,
drum n bass, and hip-hop. With bikini
season around the corner, consumers can play the
special "work out" mode which enables
individuals to track calorie burning while
getting into shape. Those not familiar with the
arcade game can switch to the comprehensive
lesson mode tutorial that makes learning how to
play easy. A multitude of options and difficulty
settings are available, allowing dancers of all
ages to participate. Additionally, DDR features
multiple gameplay modes including single-player,
two-player competitive and two-player cooperative
for endless replay value.
The DDR arcade game made its debut in Japan in
October 1998 and quickly became the No.1 gaming
craze in the country. The arcade success of the
game was further enhanced by the release of the
home version in Japan in March 1999. Multiple
versions have been released since the original
version resulting in cumulative sales of over 3
million units in Japan. DDR arcade fever hit the
US later that same year, becoming one of the top
grossing games at arcade centers.
