World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc.: Superstars Read to Young People At American Library Association Event in D.C.

World Wrestling Federation Entertainment Superstars Molly Holly and Spike Dudley read to approximately 300 children today at the Capitol View Neighborhood Public Library in southeast Washington, D.C., as one of a series of readings by WWFE Superstars to promote the American Library Association's "Teen Read Week 2001."
WWFE is a sponsor of Teen Read Week, which is Oct. 14-20.

Area children, fans and students from nearby summer schools and day camps crowded into the library's main foyer to listen to the WWFE Superstars read from The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling, and other selections.

"We were very pleased that Molly Holly and Spike Dudley took time from their busy schedules to read to the children today," said Gregory Bargeman, Branch Librarian at the Capitol View Neighborhood Library. "Reading is a vehicle for learning, and events like this one help inspire children to continue reading over the summer break."
"Today's event demonstrates WWFE's commitment to ongoing community efforts that underscore the importance of reading throughout life," said WWFE CEO Linda E. McMahon. "These readings allow us to speak with children about the importance of literacy and learning in a fun and informal setting."

Last year, D.C. area libraries registered 3,500 children for the district's Summer Quest program - a local program that encourages children to read over the summer months while school is out of session. As part of the Summer Quest program, events designed to entertain and educate visitors are held in the 27 branch libraries across the city. More than 5,900 children have registered to participate in the Summer Quest program so far this year.

The next WWFE Superstar reading will take place at the Glenview Public Library in Chicago on Aug. 13.
