Come Play At the Softimage Studio!; Creative Play Area at SIGGRAPH 2001 Will Feature SOFTIMAGE-R-|XSI

Softimage Co., the Montreal-based animation and special effects subsidiary of Avid Technology Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID), today announced it would participate in the creative play area dubbed "The Studio" at SIGGRAPH 2001. Attendees at this year's SIGGRAPH show, taking place from August 12-17 in Los Angeles, will be able to experiment with the latest, most innovative software tools from Softimage.

"We're happy to provide computer graphics and interactive technology professionals from around the globe with the chance to experience Softimage's technology firsthand," said Michael Stojda, Softimage's managing director. "We believe creative professionals will be impressed by our flagship animation offering, SOFTIMAGE(R)|XSI(TM), and the capabilities it has to marry art with technology as a complete end-to-end 3-D content creation package."

At this year's SIGGRAPH show, "The Studio" will also boast an expanded, hands-on "Creativity Center." At the center, digital artists can combine traditional media such as paint, pastels, charcoal and modeling clay, with state-of-the-art digital output. As its contribution to SIGGRAPH Studio, Softimage will be showing 50 seats of SOFTIMAGE(R)|XSI(TM), Softimage's flagship non-linear animation system designed for the film, games, interactive and broadcast industries, and 24 seats of SOFTIMAGE|3D(TM), an industry-leading software tool for 3-D character animation and special effects. The machines will be on display in the "Animation" section of The Studio. In the animation area, digital artists can use Softimage software to develop, create or refine 2-D and 3-D ideas, concepts and data, to transform ideas into living animation.

"Putting Softimage products to work in `The Studio' is our way of letting creative professionals give our software a thorough, hands-on tryout," added Stojda. "This creative environment will give digital artists the opportunity to see how Softimage products can be used for 3-D data capture, modeling, texturing, shading, rapid prototyping and other key actions in the animation process."

    Softimage Studio Location:

"The Studio" will be in Hall A of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Within that space, Softimage software will be on display in the "Animation" area. Attendees can sign up to work on the machines, create art using Softimage software, and then output their creations to a CD.
