Anna Kournikova and Lycos Launch Official Site, Kournikova.com Lycos Serves Up All Anna All the Time, Including Exclusive Personal Journals, Photos, Streaming Video and Downloads Terra Lycos, the largest global Internet network, (NASDAQ: TRLY and Madrid Exchange: TRR) today announced the launch of Kournikova.com (http://www.kournikova.com), Anna Kournikova's official Web site as part of Lycos Sports. Features of the Web site include an exclusive personal journal, extensive photo and video galleries and an interactive message board for fans. "I am thrilled to be able to have an official Web site for my fans around the world, as this is my opportunity to tell the world what's really happening in my life," said Anna Kournikova. "I am now able to reach millions of fans around the world via my Web site. Working with Lycos has been fantastic. The commercials have been a lot of fun, and I am excited to be working with them on my official site." Kournikova's official Web site is part of her multi-year marketing endorsement with Lycos, which includes television, print and billboard advertisements, in addition to exclusive online content and promotions. Lycos recently introduced Kournikova's second television commercial, which promotes Lycos Sports and its fantasy sports product. The commercial is currently airing on ABC and ESPN, including on "Monday Night Football." During the first week the commercial aired, Lycos fantasy football registrations increased three-fold over the previous year. Internet users can view the commercial on her official Web site, Kournikova.com. The Kournikova.com Web site is an example of how celebrities are using the Internet to communicate directly with their fans. Users can expect to see trusted news and updates coming directly from Anna on her official Web site. "When we entered into the endorsement agreement with Anna, we knew it would create buzz around the brand, but the attention we've received has exceeded our expectations," said Steve Fund, vice president of brand marketing for Terra Lycos. "Anna's global appeal clearly transcends that of the typical tennis player, so when the world wants to know about Anna, they will come to Lycos." Kournikova is regularly ranked the number one most searched for athlete on the Internet, according to The Lycos 50 (http://50.lycos.com), an authoritative weekly list of the top people, places and things users are searching for online. In an average week, Kournikova receives more search queries than Michael Jordan, Mia Hamm and Tiger Woods combined. Clips from Kournikova's new fitness video "Basic Elements" will be available to Lycos users on Kournikova.com later this month. Users will also be able to purchase the tape through the Kournikova Store at kournikova.com. The Kournikova.com Web site announcement follows the successful "Win Anna's Stuff" online promotion on Lycos. More than 10,000 instant prizes were given away to Lycos users, including Anna's jewelry, a car and an all-expenses-paid trip to the four grand slam tennis tournaments. The "Win Anna's Stuff" portion of the promotion ended on July 11, 2001, but the second phase of the promotion entitled "Win Anna's Prize Money" will continue to run on Lycos Gamesville (http://www.gamesville.com) through December 31, 2001. The
first prize winner of the Lycos "Win Anna's
Stuff" promotion, Kelly Mayer, 37, of Ofallon,
Missouri, today appeared with Anna Kournikova during a
press conference and launch party in New York City.
Kournikova presented Mayer with the keys to a brand new
2001 BMW Z3 convertible and the winner was treated to a
night at the U.S. Open. |
