EA.com(SM) today announced the launch of EA SPORTS(TM) Football Showdown and EA SPORTS(TM) Football Bonanza

    Business & Entertainment Editors

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 2001--Prove that you are the end-all, be-all authority on football among your friends and rub their noses in it as you pack your bags for a trip to the Super Bowl(TM) in New Orleans. With two days remaining before the official kickoff of the professional football season, EA.com(SM) today announced the launch of EA SPORTS(TM) Football Showdown and EA SPORTS(TM) Football Bonanza, two online football pick `em games that are fun, free and offer the chance to win weekly prizes.
EA SPORTS Football Showdown challenges fans to pick the winner of each professional football season game in the coming week. The more games picked correctly, the higher the chance of scoring some great EA SPORTS merchandise. Each week, the top five forecasters will be awarded prizes such as copies of the hottest-selling sports game currently on the market, Madden NFL(TM) 2002 or an autographed football. Weekly winners are also entered for an end-of-season drawing for a trip for two to the Pro Bowl in Hawaii.
Alongside EA SPORTS Football Showdown, EA.com also launched Football Bonanza, offering die-hard fans even more opportunities to challenge their football know-it-all skills. EA SPORTS Football Bonanza challenges fans to select any four different NFLPA(R) players to achieve one of four key statistical milestones during any given week during the season. For example, if choosing your favorite Quarterback, milestones would be the number of touchdown passes or number of passing yards thrown in a single game. Users are permitted one entry per week for a chance to win EA SPORTS t-shirts. Top weekly winners are also entered to win a trip to the Pro Bowl.
The stakes are even higher for AOL subscribers who join the action in these two pick `em games. EA.com and AOL have teamed up to offer an exclusive season-end Touchdown Sweepstakes(TM) (AOL Keyword: Touchdown Sweepstakes) that includes four trips to the Super Bowl. Each Super Bowl prize package is for two people and includes hotel, airfare, Super Bowl tickets and VIP passes to the annual EA SPORTS Madden Bowl, a fierce head-to-head Madden NFL 2002 video game tournament involving professional athletes and Hollywood celebrities.
"The football pick sheet is a mainstay in offices and dorm rooms across the country and Showdown and Bonanza brings this competitive pastime to a new level by offering compelling prizes, including trips to the Pro Bowl and Super Bowl," said Eric Hartness, director of sports marketing for EA.com. "Football fans of all ages and knowledge levels will find these games easily accessible, easy to navigate and fun to play."
EA SPORTS Football Showdown and EA SPORTS Football Bonanza are hosted on the pogo.com(TM) channel at EA.com (
http://www.ea.com). In addition to the weekly prizes, anyone who participates in either of these games can accumulate pogo.com tokens for each correct prediction. Pogo.com tokens can be redeemed for cash and merchandise prizes valued up to $5,000.
