THQ AND SPRINT TEAM UP TO DEVELOP AND DISTRIBUTE POPULAR GAMES TO SPRINT PCS CUSTOMERS

THQ Inc. (NASDAQ NMS: THQI) and Sprint (NYSE: FON, PCS), which operates the largest all-digital, all-PCS nationwide wireless network and is the fastest growing wireless carrier, today announced that THQ will develop and publish some of its popular games for both Sprint PCS Wireless Web and Third Generation (3G) Sprint PCS phones.

The first of these 3G games will include a number of popular titles such as WWF Mobile Madness, Moto GP, several Intellivisionä brands including Astrosmash and Skiing and Snood. Each will be developed using the Java 2 platform, Micro Edition (J2MEä). A sample of these games will be unveiled today at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas at the Sprint PCS Third-Generation Network Experience, a traveling showcase of 3G applications and services.

"THQ is committed to hitting gamers everywhere they play," stated Doug Dyer, general manager, THQ Wireless. "We look forward to marrying some of our biggest brands and proven handheld development expertise with Sprint PCS’ 3G1X services to deliver engaging interactive entertainment to Sprint PCS customers across the nation."

"With the mobility of the Sprint PCS phone combined with the enhanced speeds and graphics of 3G technology, gamers won’t have to be tied to a TV to get some hardcore action," stated Chip Novick, vice president of consumer marketing, Sprint PCS. "Sprint PCS’ relationship with THQ clearly connects the leader in wireless with the best in gaming for the ultimate in mobile entertainment."

For Sprint PCS customers, 3G1X services will launch nationwide in mid-2002 and is expected to initially mean faster wireless data speeds and enhancements to their existing applications and services. It also creates an opportunity for new and more robust applications as data speeds increase including enhanced games, video and audio clips, high-speed Internet browsing, email with attachments, digital imaging and enhanced messaging.

Research firm DataMonitor indicates that one in six U.S. cell phone subscribers or 21.6 million people played games on mobile phones in 2001, and it forecasts that 93 million people will be playing wireless games in 2006.
