BENWIN INTRODUCES
GX-6, LATEST ADDITION TO ITS AWARD-WINNING FLAT
PANEL SPEAKER LINE
The new GX-6,
Benwins latest laser-designed flat panel
speaker system, joins its growing flat panel line
Benwins
other flat panel speakers include the
award-winning EX-4 (recipient of Business
Weeks 1999 IDSA Product of the Year), and
the worlds first flat panel speaker, the BW2000
that has won the LadyDragon's Award,
introduced at COMDEX 98 CNN.com, and ABC
News and others.featured in Business Week,

The 21st
century look and audio quality of the GX-6 is
further enhanced by the use of aerospace panel
materials. GX-6 is designed using 2nd
generation NXT flat panel speaker technology
giving it a higher efficiency and extended
frequency response than previous models. It also
features a much larger and more powerful
subwoofer than previous models.
The unique design
and 360o dispersion characteristics
provide high quality stereo even with random
placement of the satellites resulting in easy
integration into the workspace. The power, bass
and virtual surround controls are located on one
satellite and the control knobs are textured for
easy manipulation. With the virtual surround mode
enabled, realistic 3D effects enhance any audio
signal.
Using NXT
technology, there is no speaker cone, so the
actual speaker is half as thin as a credit card.
This enables all Benwin flat panel speakers to
look dramatically different than conventional
cone-type speakers.
The GX-6 is the
second NXT multimedia speaker to incorporate a
laminated monolith diaphragm. This involves the
construction of directional composites and resin
that are finally coated in an enamel epoxy
developed by the aerospace industry. Upon final
assembly each unit is measured by a scanning
laser vibrometer to ensure exact diaphragm
placement, DML operation and QC of frequency
response and sound quality parameters.
The GX-6 is the
second NXT-technology product to be designed
completely using computer modeling and advanced
stereo lithography. This results in improved
design, reduced prototype costs, reduces the time
to market by nearly 60 days, and most important
to the retailer and consumer, dramatically
reduces manufacturing costs.
The Benwin GX-6
flat panel speaker system has an MSRP of under
$179.99 though street pricing may be considerably
less. The EX-4 and GX-6 are the worlds
first NXT-approved flat panel speaker designed
and engineered in the United States.
Conventional
speakers employ a cone that moves in and out in a
rapid, piston-like action to create sound. The
rigid panels in the Benwin speakers are actuated
in three planes by an electrical current that
creates a complex series of vibrations spread
uniformly over the panel, eliminating hot spots
and providing a uniform sound over a wide area.
The technology was an evolutionary design by
British aeronautical engineers who were seeking
ways to make jet engine cockpits quieter.
