LADYDRAGON.COM - RUGRATS: SEARCH FOR REPTAR

To those of you who are not familiar with the Rugrats, I suggest that you turn on the television, tune in to Nickelodeon and be introduced to the adventures of these popular babies.

The game itself is comprised of a series of levels in which your goal is to traverse the house while recovering pieces of Reptar by either successfully completing the level or by gathering enough bonuses to trade in for a piece (kinda like a Chuckie Cheese visit). It's a 3-D game completely unique in its kind.

I must admit that I did not expect this game to be funny, but Rugrats goes beyond my expectations. You can pick any one of the characters to play through the game. Of course, the main goal of the game is to find the pieces to the puzzle, but you will also have certain missions specific to each baby to accomplish. Rugrats is innovative for such a concept in a child's game. And of course, in the end, there's a single/multi-player golf game to play, which everyone will enjoy.

The esthetic aspects of the game are very well done and are similar to the cartoon. The voices are authentic and the humourous expressions of the little tykes are taken straight from the television series. The gameplay is not incredibly simple to the point of being totally boring nor is it really repetitive. The ability to turn, etc, is similar to Tomb Raider, though Rugrats has nothing else similar to that game.

I was surprised to realize that the popularity of the Rugrats was so high, but the public received this game very well. The game does give a challenge and the different tests that are given for the gamer to achieve are difficult enough to sustain their interest. Nickolodeon and THQ make a good team and you can be sure this title will be a hit! You'd better run to the store and grab this game before the Rugrats grow up and it's too late!
