When you see a game in store that has been developed by Rareware you know right away it is a high quality game. Not only that Conker's Bad Fur Day is an outstanding game but it has new features never seen before in a game. When you start your game you will see The N of Nintendo's logo then Conker's arrives with a chain saw and cuts it in half and kicks it away then says stupid logo then pulls up the Rareware logo off his pocket and leans on it and says marvelous. Well just that alone tells you that this game is not geared towards children that is why the game bears the M for Mature as rating so parents be advise.
Then you see a drunk Conker that walks in the Tavern. The Tavern is actually the menu where you access the option and the game modes. You choose your main game from the Tavern plus there is the Multiplayer and the Chapters mode. The Multiplayer mode is behind the bartender where you will find 7 wine barrels. Each Barrels bears the name of a game. You can play with the cpu they are called solo games; Heist, Tank, Race and Death Match. Or you can form teams and play the Raptor, Beach or War game with your four of your friends. Only this part is multiplayer the main game is only for one player. Your saved games are divided in areas like the Gargoyle that can be replayed in the Chapters and will not affect your main saved game. During your adventure you will encounter different characters like Berri, Birdy, the Fabled Panther King, the Beast of Poo Montain and the Evil Tediz. Conker posses many abilities like swimming, climbing, crawling, jumping, ride a raptor, bounce around on a pitchfork, drive a Jet Board and a Tank. He carries a fry pan has his weapon but can also use a shotgun, turret gun, and machine gun. He can also activate switches and have his tail turn like an helicopter and lift him for a short time in the air. Conker is dress in denim and sneakers normally but he can wear multiple costumes like wear a gas mask, a King's crown, a miner hat with a light on it, a private outfit even become a bat.

A special feature is incorporated in this game called Context Zone. A circle pad with an embossed B in it is how you will recognize the zone then you press B when you see the lightbulb and hear the Ting sound. What will happens next will depend on what is going on in the story meaning something special will be given to Conker like a weapon or an item and can only be use there. That is why this feature is called context sensitive. But the most unique feature is the fact that Conker can change his behavior. Like at one point Conker is drunk so instead of looking cute, he has bloody eyes, his tongue is out, his ears are falling back but most important of all he has no more abilities. Meaning he can only walk slowly and he keeps on saying oh I don't feel so good. Conker will stay drunk until you find the special B and you will get a special potion that will heal him. When you play the camera is sometimes to far from him or does not turn the way you want to but you get use to it after a while. Like I mention before this game is not for every one this game has bad language and is for gamers over 17 years old.
The unique gameplay is what makes this game interesting not only it has all the feature I mention before but you can also see different facial expression on Conkers face like closing his eyes and if you leave him alone and do not do nothing you will see him entertain himself by playing a yoyo, read a journal, drink even play his Game Boy Color talk to you like saying are you dead I think is dead took 4 minutes before I could see the same behavior twice. Rareware really did an outstanding job by trying this new innovative gameplay which makes me wonder what surprise they have in store for us when the Gamecube comes on the market this fall. The soundtrack is also very good. You can hear the sound effect quite well and the music will change depending on the story. Although this title is not for everyone Conker's Bad Fur Day is an original and unique game that has new ground breaking features for you to experiment and enjoy. |
