LADYDRAGON.COM - Mr. Driller

Mr. Driller is a fun puzzle game from Namco that will remind you of their classic arcade game Dig Dug.

Mr. Driller is a brave little professional rock buster named Susumu that was called upon to drill through blocks that suddenly appeared Downtown and that are covering the street so no one can walk on them. Your job has Mr. Driller is to drill through the blocks in order to uncovered this Mystery.

The main menu is quite simple and easy to choose from Arcade, Survival and Time Attack mode.

Arcade is the main mode where you choose to drill your way to 2500 feet or to 5000 feet. Beside the main goal to react either level you must look for Air Capsule along your way in order to survive that long.

You also need to be careful where you drill because blocks might fall on your head. If you can put together 4 block the same color they will disappear and it might create a chain reaction depending on witch blocks fall where. The x-Block must be avoided if possible because they will take air away from you.

Time Attack is where you run against the clock where instead of looking for air to survive you look for clock through out the levels.

If you finish with a score among the 10 best, you will be able to write and record your name.

The Survival mode has 3 levels Normal to start at the surface, Hard to start at 5000 feet and Expert to start 10 000 feet. You have 1 life to get through everything and beat the previous record after you can replay your game to see how you did.

The graphics are quite simple and you do not have any type of animation when you play but they are a bit sharper then the PlsyStation version as well as the sound. The control with the Dreamcast is a bit better since the Analogue stick works to contro Susumu. Too bad you can only play by yourself it would of been fun to play with a friend.

But their Gameplay is where Mr. Driller excel you have many setting to adjust the your game so you game make it has difficult as you want. Susumu is also quite cute and will turn blue if he his missing some air and turn into an angel if he dies so that part is good so it does not dramatize his death too much.

Mr. Driller is a fun puzzle game that can appeal to about anyone who likes puzzle specially someone who wants a game with a different type of puzzle challenge.
