Developed by VR-1 and published by Microsoft Games Studio, Nightcaster is an action-adventure game featuring spells combat and it is done exclusively for the Xbox. A long time ago, Arran was given magical power by a mysterious glowing Orb then went into hiding in order to learn his new magical skills. Many years later he learns that his parents got killed and his world his being consumed by evil and Nightcaster his trying to take over his world.
So Arran armed only with an ancient spell book and a staff made from a branch of the sacred Yew Tree, he sets upon his quest to reunite the four essences of Magic—Fire, Water, Light, and Dark—to gain the power he will need to defeat the Nightcaster. The Orb gave Arran a Spell Book so you can manage the items that you will collect and view your accomplishment through out your game plus to store your spell spheres. There are also Runes and Mana Balls to discover.
There are 4 school of magic; Fire, Water, Light and Dark. For each school of magic there are four spell type and each spell type can have up to three levels of increasing power. During your adventure you will encounter creatures that are born from each essence of magic like the Yeti -Water, Goblins-Fire, Ghouls-dark, Lizards-Light and the Rainbow Dragon-All Colors.

In total there are over 30 types of creatures. The Spells are most effective against creatures of the opposite magic, like the Light spells work best against Dark creatures and Fire spells work best against Water creatures, and vice versa. Spells from the same magic, like Light against Light, do no damage. Light creatures are yellow, Dark are purple, Fire are red, and Water are blue. You will also encounters friends like Madelyn, Lochran plus Soldiers and Villagers. You will find that it will not take you that long to through the game. There is no inventories so you really need to manage your health well because it takes time to replenish your health. The control will take a bit to use too since you need to work with both analogue stick.
Graphically the lands are well design they are nice to look at. The game has an interesting feature where your character will age and effect the Gameplay meaning that as you get old it takes more time for your health to replenish but you get also more powerful. In Nightcaster you combat enemies with different type of spells instead of weapons but unfortunately the game is short and you can finish it quickly.
