A real naval simulation. |
There is not a lot of computer games companies that will risk on a naval simulation adventure. The last success of this category was named Harpoon. They even brought out a second edition. Sonalysts haved already made submarine simulation and other army training programs for the United States and now he is the Jane's Fleet Command developer. That is a big plus on the quality of this game. Again they did a complex and large project. Fleet Command is based on a really good interface with nice graphics and pretty simple but dynamic. No sacrifice were made on the realism and the depth of the simulation. They also took for model the modern naval system of today. That put you in a real situation. You are send in missions of different degre of difficulty. For example, transit operations, small identification missions and earth attack. In total, more then 40 missions. All those missions are classified with a stars system to rate the difficulty of each one. The campaigns are only a series of link between the more difficult missions and you have to deal with your lost and damages for all the lenght of the campaign. Each mission have different objectives that have to be complete to a minimum level. All this in real time with 3D graphics. You can use the most powerfull military force like the nuclear destroyer. You can also use differents cameras with differents visions and increase or decrease the zoom as necessary. Talking about realism, you will make the transition between the day and the night, clouds in 3D with maybe some thunder. rains and other meteo conditions you can meet on the sea.Of course the special effects to represent the explosions are inculded. "Lancer les missiles." |
"Oops! Help!" It is more appreciate to look at when it is the ennemy that blow up. In addition of the option between four campaign, you can choose your side, your country for who you will fight. But do not shoot on evrything that is moving. The goal is to protect is ships and planes all that while attacking the ennemy. Look out, you will meet allies but also neutral units. The game action is principaly show in a big window that can be a real time map or a camera view of unit in mission that are in 3D and it is able to rotate and zoom. Under this principal window there is three little screens. The first is showing a map of the region where the action is taking place. The middle one can be switch with the principal window. The last one give details informations like the speed, the weapons, the direction and the damages. Everything can be control with those screens. There is also shortkeys giving you the opportunity to give fast orders. You can even create your own flight formation. Even if the shortkeys are difficult to memorise and the control a little down everything is exactly like the real modern simulators. The artificial intelligence is good for the ennemy and correct with the allies. The 3D graphics get you in the game, in all the action. The missions are pretty good and very exciting. The mission editor is interesting and pretty good. After you get confortable with the commands in this game you will find a feeling of power controling an heavy military force. Jane's Fleet Command is complet and very good. It is a perfect naval simulation. |
