F1 racing now and then |
Racing
games have been around on computers since day one.
I still remember playing a racing game on the Vic-20
called night driver. At the time I though the game
was so real it was scary. How times have changed.
If you are blessed with a 3D card you know how
much games have come along. Ubi Soft has a great new racing game the captures the sprit of racing a Formula 1 car. Grand Prix Monaco is a pure racing game. Developed in conjunction with Formula 1 engineers at Renault, it lets you, the player, get behind the state of the art in racing technology. The game is not for the weenie racer. It features a very realistic driving model and an unforgiving learning curve. The game can be played in different modes depending on your skill level. From easy, arcade like, mode to realistic mode. The realistic mode is really for people who know what they are doing. To say that the games controls are unforgiving is a understatement. You also get to race real cars on real tracks.

Go back to the 50's! 16 Formula 1 circuits range from Argentina, Monaco, Germany to Spain, Canada and France. All are very much like the originals and capture the look and feel of the country they are in. All the racing teams from 1996 are represented, including Arrows, Benton, McLaren, Gordan, Lijier and Williams. One question, why 1996? We are after all in 1998. Very odd. A verity of game controllers are supported but I found no support for force feedback. Most racing games use FB now and it adds a lot to the game. Hopefully a patch will add it. You can play on a network or a modem. The network mode supports up to 8 players in a game. The game can be played in many modes including Single race, Grand Prix or time attack. You can also race cars from the past for some old time fun in 50's mode. 50's mode is the same a the regular game but your back in the 1950's with the cars and drivers of the era. If you are looking for a very realistic racing game, this one may fit the bill. |
