Developed by Creative Assembly, produced by Dreamtime Interactive and published by EA Games, Shogun Total War: Warlord Edition is an epic strategy game that will plunged you into the world of the 16th century Japanese warlord. The game is set during the " Age of the Century at War" which is the literal translation of Sengoku Jidai period. You take the place of one of seven warlords or daimyo where you must manage bargain and battle your way to take place as Shogun, the commander-in-chief and with 6 rivals that you will need to defeat and conquer in order to become the ultimate rulers of Japan.
With this special Warlord Edition you will get the chance to conquer Japan as Kulai Khan, the supreme ruler of the Mongol Horde, in his invasion of the 13th century. You can also try to defend Japan as the leader of the Hojo clan, the regent of Japan at the time. There is 5 game mode to choose form. In the Campaign mode you choose your level of difficulty easy, normal, hard, expert, then your starting point from 1530, 1550, 1580, the Mongol Invasion or the Sengoku Jidai period and the winning conditions. After you select your clan there is 6; The Oda, Hojo, Teketa, Uesugi, Imagawa, Shimazu plus the Rebel&Ronin that can not be selected since they are many small factions that are spread through different provinces with their own agenda.
The Campaign is divided in 2 main game section the overall game is played in a turned- based but the epic battle against an other clan is done in real time. Beside being able to fight head on with an other clan their also other ways to win against your opponent. You can send an Emissary to make allies, send a Shinobi to spy on your enemy or a Ninja to assassinate Unit Leader and Emissary. The other game mode are Custom Battle where you play a fully customizable single battle.

In the Historical Battles mode you can command the armies of the 4 great daimyo in Japan's history; Oda Nobunaga, Takeda Shingen, Tokugawa Leyasu or Toyotomi Hideyoshi in different Battle like the Anegawa, Nagashima, 4th Kawanakajima, Nagakute, Mikata Ga Hara, Yamazaki and Imjin. Plus you can play Toyotomi Hideyoshi set during the Japanese invasion of Korea with the Amnok and Fukuoka battles. In the Historical Campaign you will cover battles in the rise to power of the Three Unifiers of Japan. Oda Nobunaga with 3 battles, Tokugawa Leyasu and Toyotomi Hideyoshi with 6 battles each plus there is a set of 4 battles detailing the path Kubai Khan' s invasion of Japan may have taken.
As for the Multiplayer mode you can battle against 6 other clans online with 6 game types; Last man Standing, Capture the Honjin, King of the Hill, Have the Enemy, Assassinate the General and the Survive the Siege. Also there is a Map editor where you can create your own battlefields. Many improvement are included in this version like the different new Campaigns that I mention above, new units like the Battlefield Ninja and the Naginata Cavalry, new buildings like the Drill Dojo and the Battlefield Ninja Dojo, improve AI and tool tips, Emissary can bribes enemy's army, more weather effects. When you battle in real time against an others army it is very impressive to see specially when you command a huge army but the individual soldier are kind of small, a bit bigger soldiers would make it better.
But where the game excel is in the Gameplay not only it has a lot of dept and it is fun but there is also information on the era so you can learn more if you want too. Shogun Total War: Warlord Edition is definitely a game that you want in your collection it will entertain you for hours while you command an impressive army. |
