LadyDragon at Wrestlemania 18WrestleMania X-8 To be Held At Toronto's SkyDome On March 17, 2002The Biggest World Wrestling Federation Event Returns to Toronto with FAN AXXESS; Sets Sights on Breaking SkyDome Attendance Record Ending months of speculation, World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. announced in front of thousands of fans in Toronto's Nathan Phillips Square that Toronto has officially been selected as the location for WrestleMania X-8 and FAN AXXESS. WrestleMania, traditionally the highest profile World Wrestling Federation event, will be held at SkyDome on March 17, 2002. FAN AXXESS is a three-day fan festival that will be held Thursday, March 14 - Saturday, March 16, 2002. "Not only is WrestleMania our biggest event of the year, it is widely recognized as one of the premiere entertainment events in the world. Last year, WrestleMania in Houston attracted a record-setting audience of nearly 68,000 fans from all 50 States, Canada, and more than a dozen foreign countries," said Stuart Snyder, President and COO of WWFE. "Only one city outside of the United States has been able to deliver WrestleMania to the world. Toronto was there for us in 1990 and we're very excited about making it our home again for WrestleMania X-8." Tickets for WrestleMania X-8 will go on sale on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the SkyDome box office, Ticketmaster, and online at www.WrestleMania.com. Additional ticket information, including ticket prices, will be released soon. WWFE will be offering a special WrestleMania X-8 travel package that consists of ringside, floor, or lower tier tickets; three-night room accommodations; tickets to the Saturday sessions of FAN AXXESS; a Meet & Greet with World Wrestling Federation Superstars; a two-day Toronto Transit Commission pass; and WrestleMania X-8 souvenirs. "I'm thrilled that we can bring WrestleMania X-8 to our Canadian fans, who have been so loyal for so many years. We welcome our fans from around the world to be part of the largest indoor entertainment event in the history of Canada," said Carl DeMarco, President, WWFE Canada Inc. "We believe that this year's event will bring the city of Toronto worldwide media attention and millions of dollars into the local economy." Jake Geleerd, Co-Owner of SkyDome stated: "SkyDome is very pleased to welcome the World Wrestling Federation in March 2002. WrestleMania X-8 will be the `Event of the Year' in Canada!" The first WrestleMania was held at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985. At the time, it was the most-watched closed circuit event in history and established WrestleMania as the premier World Wrestling Federation event. On March 29, 1987, 93,173 fans attended WrestleMania III at the Pontiac Silverdome - a world indoor attendance record that still stands today for any sports or entertainment event. WrestleMania VI was held at Toronto's SkyDome on April 1, 1990 - the first time the extravaganza was held outside of the United States - and currently holds the attendance record of 67,678 in that venue. Last year, WrestleMania X-Seven in Houston's Reliant Astrodome broke the attendance record in that building with 67,925 fans. "The last time WrestleMania came to town, it set the Canadian record for indoor stadium attendance. There's no doubt in my mind that we're going to break that record next year at WrestleMania X-8," stated Toronto Mayor Mel Lastman. "I'm excited that WrestleMania X-8 is coming to Toronto," said Mike Harris, Ontario's Premier. "With all the fans visiting the city and millions more watching globally, it's a fantastic opportunity to promote Toronto and Ontario to the world." World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, Inc. (NYSE: WWF) is an integrated media and entertainment company headquartered in Stamford, Conn., with sales offices in New York City, Chicago and Toronto.
