Samantha Stosur wins over Agniezka Radwanska at the 2011 Rogers Cup

TORONTO, Canada--(LadyDragon.com)13/08/11--Samantha Stosur #11 from Australia wins over Agniezka Radwanska #13 from Poland 6-2, 7-5, 6-2 in 1 hour and 54 minutes for a place in the Final tomorrow.

They met twice previously 1 all.

About Sam

Sam is through to her 4th semifinal of 2011, and is bidding to reach her 2nd final of the year (after finishing runner-up at Rome, l. Sharapova); she has a 2-8 win-loss record in finals.

Sam is the only SF not to have won a title already this year.

Sam has achieved her career-best Rogers Cup result by reaching the last four (previous best was QF in 2009).

Sam’s 3r win over world No.6 Li was her 16th career Top 10 win and 3rd of the year

Sam dropped out of the WTA Top 10 on Monday, August 7, for the first time since the week of April 12, 2010 – the winner of this match will reclaim the No.10 ranking.

Entering the Rogers Cup, Sam had dropped the opening match at her last 2 events: Wimbledon (l. Czink) and Stanford (after 1r bye, l. Lisicki).

Sam dropped the opening set against Morita in the 1r, but has not lost a set since.

About Agniezka

Agniezka is on a 9-match winning streak, having captured her 5th WTA title (and first in 3 years) at Carlsbad; her win over world No.3 Zvonareva in the final was the 3rd Top 3 win of her career.

Agniezka defeated Zvonareva again this week, taking her tally of Top 3 wins to 4.

Agniezka’s QF final win over Petkovic (2nd defeat of Petkovic in as many weeks) has improved her tally against Top 10 players to 6-6 this year.

This is Agniezka’s 3rd appearance at the Rogers Cup; she has achieved her best result by reaching the SF (previous best was QF in 2009, l. Sharapova).

Agniezka is through to her 3rd SF of the year; she is 1-1 in SF (won Carlsbad, SF at Stuttgart)…Radwanska has never reached back-to-back finals at WTA level before.

Agniezka’s win-loss record in finals is 5-2.

Agniezka has advanced to the SF without the loss of a set.

1 all then it is all Sam. Sam does not loose any point on her serve until it is 4-1 at 40-15 then 40-30 then she holds, 5-5. Now Agniezka serving to stay in the set and does so 5-2. Sam serving for the first set and wins it 6-2 in 27 minutes.

Agniezka breaks for the first time in the match 1 all. They both hold, 2 all. Agniezka holds to love, 3-2. Long close game but Sam holds 3 all. An other hold to Love for Agniezka 4-3. Now it is Sam that holds to Love, 4 all. Both holding 5 all. Agniezka holds and now 6-5 Sam serving to stay in the second set. Sam goes down 0-40 and a double fault her second of the match give the second set to Agniezka, 7-5. after 1 hour and 23 minutes.

Fabulous point from Agniezka to win her the game , 1all. Now 2 all. Agniezka looks a bit tired now goes down 15-40 and her ball hits the net wide and she looses the game, 3-2. Sam holds to 15 to take a 4-2 lead. Agniezka unfortunatly failed to hold and now Sam is serving for the match, 5-2. Sam serves her seventh ace of the match to win it, 6-2.

Sam will face the winner of the Victoria Azerenka and Serena Williams match in the Final.
