Maria Sharapova wins over Dominika Cibulkova at the Wimbledon 2011 By LadyDragon LONDON--(LadyDragon.com)28/06/11--Maria wins in 2 set 6-1, 6-1 in a quick 1 hour. Well the scores tells it all really, Maria was on fire today and meant business big time. Maria ran over Dominika with her 5 aces and 23 winners compare to 0-3. Maria is making her 9th consecutive Wimbledon appearance; champion in 2004 (as No.13 seed, defeated top seed Serena .Williams in the Final; 2nd-youngest champion here in Open Era); since winning in 2004, 4 of her 6 losses here have been to the eventual champion. Maria is now the only Grand Slam Champion remaining in the draw. Maria could climb as high as No.3 by winning the title at Wimbledon; if Azarenka does not reach the Final pius Maria would need to reach the Final in order to improve on her current ranking (No.6). In the Semi-Final, Maria will face Sabine Lisicki who defeated Marion Bartoli earlier today. |
