ASSA ABLOY at Greenbuild 2015: Leading the Door and Hardware Industry into a Sustainable Future By LadyDragon NEW HAVEN, Conn.--(LadyDragon.com)18/11/15--5.13pm EST, LadyDragon wrote - A new era of transparency and enhanced product performance is transforming the building products industry, as the push to incorporate sustainability into the built environment becomes more widespread. ASSA ABLOY is contributing to this movement by obtaining Environmental and Health Product Declarations for numerous door and hardware products and introducing new door opening solutions that augment the sustainability features of a building. Furthermore, ASSA ABLOY is also issuing Declare labels. Learn about sustainability initiatives at ASSA ABLOY by visiting the company exhibition space (Booth # 1513) at Greenbuild November 18-20 in Washington D.C. Green building guidelines and standards, such as LEED v4 and the Living Building Challenge, are continuously evolving to make buildings more efficient, productive and healthier for the occupants within. This latter sustainability goal--healthier buildings--requires greater scrutiny and transparency for the elements that go into a building. As a result, a need has developed for Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), Health Product Declarations (HPDs), and Declare labels; all list the material ingredients for each building product. An EPD is a verified document that reports environmental data of products based on life cycle assessment (LCA) and other relevant information and in accordance with the international standard ISO 14025 (Type III Environmental Declarations). An HPD is an impartial tool for the accurate reporting of product contents. A Declare label provides a transparent materials database that help project teams with the stringent Living Building Challenge program. ASSA ABLOY now has 93 EPDs, three HPDs, and 24 Declare labels for its entire span of products, with many more on the way. Architects, construction professionals and building owners are complying with product transparency requirements by using these documented door openings in their buildings. Major leaps in the energy efficiency of electronic access control systems have also been made with the introduction of EcoFlex® locks from Corbin Russwin and Sargent and EcoPower™ power supplies from Securitron. When used in tandem, the EcoFlex/EcoPower system reduces the energy draw by 99%. These products from ASSA ABLOY Group brands are backed by GreenCiricle Certification that verifies the energy savings offered by these access control devices. "Creating EPDs requires manufacturers to perform life cycle assessments of their products," said Aaron Smith, Director of Sustainable Building Solutions for ASSA ABLOY. "We utilized this data from our product life cycle assessment to make major leaps in the energy efficiency of our electronic access control systems. Now our EcoFlex and EcoPower products are the most efficient in the industry." ASSA ABLOY also offers professional expertise in the field, with numerous LEED accredited service representatives. In addition, an online ASSA ABLOY Sustainability Calculator, powered by ecomedes, is available to help building professionals determine how door openings can add to the sustainability properties of a building and help achieve the desired level of green building certification. assaabloy.mygreenpayback.com Learn more about these and other ASSA ABLOY sustainability initiatives by visiting www.assaabloydss.com/sustainability About ASSA ABLOY ASSA ABLOY is the global leader in door opening solutions, dedicated to satisfying end-user demands for security, safety, design, sustainability and convenience.
